If you’re a Land Cruiser enthusiast in the USA, restoring an old Land Cruiser is one of the most rewarding projects you can take on. But with so many series and models to choose from, which ones offer the best combination of character, usability, and investment value?

1. FJ40 (1960–1984)

The FJ40 is the holy grail of Land Cruiser restoration. Its iconic boxy shape, simple mechanics, and incredible off-road capability make it one of the most desirable classic 4x4s in the world. Values have risen dramatically over the past decade.

2. FJ60 / FJ62 (1981–1990)

The 60 Series offered enclosed comfort without sacrificing the go-anywhere capability Toyota was famous for. Clean examples are becoming increasingly hard to find, making restored specimens highly sought after.

3. FJ80 / 80 Series (1990–1997)

Our specialty at LCH. The 80 Series combines modern comfort with legendary reliability. The 1FZ-FE and 3FE engines are workhorses that, when properly maintained, will run indefinitely. An excellent daily driver that doubles as a serious off-road machine.

4. 100 Series (1998–2007)

The 100 Series brought luxury to the Land Cruiser lineup without losing its rugged DNA. These vehicles are now entering the sweet spot for restoration — old enough to be appreciating, young enough to have modern amenities.

5. FJ55 Wagon (1967–1980)

The “Iron Pig” is a cult classic. Station wagon body, solid axles, and vintage Toyota engineering. Restored examples fetch impressive prices and turn heads everywhere they go.
