The Engine

The 1HD-T is the turbocharged variant of Toyota's 4.2L inline-six diesel, introduced in the 1990 80 Series Land Cruiser. With a 12-valve single overhead cam head and mechanical turbocharger, it delivers the kind of low-end torque and rock-solid reliability that made the 80 Series a legend in every corner of the world.

Our Process

How We Rebuild Every 1HD-T

Every engine that leaves LCH goes through the same rigorous process — no shortcuts, no exceptions.

Core Sourcing & Inspection

We source low-mileage 1HD-T cores from verified suppliers. Every core receives a full inspection — bore measurements, head flatness check, crank journal condition, and compression test before teardown begins.

Full Teardown

Complete disassembly down to the bare block. Every component is catalogued, measured, and evaluated against OEM tolerances. Worn or damaged parts are replaced — not reused.

Machine Work

Block is hot-tanked and cleaned. Cylinders are bored or honed to spec. Head is resurfaced for a flat, leak-free mating surface. Valve seats cut and lapped.

Assembly

All new seals, gaskets, bearings, and rings throughout. Pistons, rods, and crank installed to torque spec. Head bolted down with new head gasket and torqued in sequence.

Injection Pump Service

The mechanical injection pump is bench-tested and serviced. Timing set precisely. Injectors tested and replaced or cleaned as needed.

06

Run-In & Quality Check

Engine is run on the stand, oil pressure and temperatures verified, and a final leak check performed before shipping or installation.
