The 1HD-FT is Toyota's upgraded iteration of the 1HD diesel family, introducing a 24-valve cylinder head over the 1HD-T's 12-valve design. The result is a significant improvement in airflow, power output, and throttle response — all while retaining the mechanical injection system that makes 1HD engines so dependable.
Fitted to the 80 Series Land Cruiser from 1992, the 1HD-FT quickly became the preferred engine for those who wanted more performance without sacrificing the simplicity and field-serviceability of a mechanical diesel. No ECU. No electronic injectors. Just a well-engineered turbo diesel that runs hard and lasts long.

How We Rebuild Every 1HD-FT
Every engine that leaves LCH goes through the same rigorous process — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
Core Sourcing & Inspection
We source low-mileage 1HD-FT cores from verified suppliers. Every core is compression tested, oil analyzed, and inspected before teardown begins.
Full Teardown
Complete disassembly to bare block. All 24 valves inspected and measured. Crank journals, bore dimensions, and deck height all measured to spec.
Machine Work
Block hot-tanked, bored or honed to specification. The 24-valve head receives special attention — all valve seats cut and lapped, head surface resurfaced flat.
Assembly
New seals, gaskets, bearings, and rings throughout. Assembly torqued to OEM specification. New head gasket and proper torque sequence on all 24-valve head bolts.
Injection Pump Service
Mechanical injection pump bench-tested and rebuilt as needed. Timing set precisely. Injectors tested — replaced or cleaned to restore proper spray pattern.
Run-In & Quality Check
Engine run on stand to verify oil pressure, coolant temps, and no leaks. Final inspection signed off before delivery or installation.
